Facebook has touted itself as a social media platform that allows brands to connect with their customers. To facilitate this, Facebook offers Facebook Pages, Facebook Business Manager, Facebook Ads and, as of 2 months ago, Ad Breaks among other services. With Ad Breaks, Facebook allows brands to monetize their content, essentially turning brands who have traditionally been advertisers into publishers. Brands typically use Facebook to reach new customers and engage existing customers, developing relationships that go beyond the transaction. Brands would make money if followers and/or targeted audiences and their friends made purchases either online or offline. To get to this holy grail of social media marketing, actually making money from social media efforts, brands publish content. Depending on the brand, this can entail huge investments in agencies, photographers, video production, talent, animation, etc. Now Facebook is offering a way for those publishers to monetize the video content that they may have already been producing and publishing anyway.

Thailand was 1 of 21 countries to receive the second round roll out of Ad Breaks in September 2018. To be eligible for Ad Breaks the Facebook Page must have a minimum 10,000 followers and 30,000 1-minute views on videos that are a minimum 3-minutes in length. For videos to be eligible, the video must be a minimum 3-minutes in length.
