Digital Media Regulations in Thailand During October 2017

In preparation for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's cremation ceremony on the 26th of October, 2017, there are certain guidelines which should be followed for any media being published in Thailand. While there will undoubtedly be official notice given by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), the Digital Advertising Association (Thailand) has published these guidelines:

 

During 1-27 Oct:

For website, VDO, and content on digital platforms to pay respect.

- Use grayscale 40% cover website, VDO, content on the digital platform.

- Adjust color and recommended to use black and white instead.

- Use the normal web page color, but add text strips or symbols at the top of the page or work pieces to offer mourning.

It depends on the ability of each individual to be able to take action.

 

Digital Paid Media

1-12 Oct: [Mourning period from the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej]

- In Remembrance of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the ads can be advertised in all online channels as normal, but it should be considered appropriate with the rules announced by the NBTC.

 

During 13-24 Oct: [Condolences over the death of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej, 13th Oct 2016]

- It's still possible to advertise, but in terms of image and tone should be 40% off and should not contain humorous, hilarious content, sexual violence, or vulgarity.

- Anyway, comply with the notification of the rules as prescribed by the NBTC.

 

During 25-27 Oct: [Cremation]

- During the royal ceremony of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej, we would like to cooperate with you to stop advertising during this time.

- However, a mournful message can appear, with the name of the company appearing. Or an agency instead of a company logo.

 

Until 28-29 Oct:

- On the day of suffering the royal ceremony of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej will be held between 28-29 Oct, the advertising can be done

- But should not be too bright colors, funny contents, hilarious, violent, sexual or vulgar.

- Anyway, comply with the notification of the rules as prescribed by the NBTC.
