With the latest update to the popular browser Firefox, many users are experiencing black screens on startup or while scrolling. Frustrated by this, I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it only to have the same problem. Doing some research in the Mozilla support forum I discovered the solution to the problem.
The problem is caused by a feature called hardware acceleration which is automatically checked in the latest update.
To solve the problem start Firefox in safe mode. You can do this by holding the ‘Shift’ key when you open Firefox. A dialog screen will appear with the option to ‘Start in Safe Mode’:
Once Firefox is open, go to Open Menu in the top right corner,
and go to Options. When the dialog box opens, go to Advanced and uncheck ‘Use hardware acceleration when available’:
Click ‘OK’ and close Firefox. When you open Firefox again it will be working.
