Starting September 30, 2015 Chinese travelers have finally been able to pay for items with a quick mobile phone scan through WeChat payment. This method, called “WeChat Cross-border”, comes from the massive Chinese demand for mobile payments. In fact conversely Western customers which are skeptical about these third-party payments, Chinese ones have already been sold on the practice.
Now that WeChat is introducing group voice calls it seems like Skype won’t have much space left in China or possible anywhere in the world in the future.
At the moment the service is not available on IOS devices but just on the Android WeChat 6.5 beta testing version.

WeChat (or Weixin as it is known in China) is the leading star in the messaging app platform with over 600 million monthly active users just in 2014 (one third of the world amount). So it is not misleading to assume that those numbers have improved till today.
