Chinese Valentine's Day, traditionally known as Qixi Festival, is a special day dedicated to love and romance in China. It's a day when couples express their love for each other through gifts, romantic dinners, and other special events. The legend behind the day is both romantic and magical, and the traditions associated with the day are both meaningful and fun. Whether you're celebrating with a loved one or simply learning about the culture, Chinese Valentine's Day is a day worth celebrating with excitement and joy.

We are all familiar with the 14th of February, Valentine's Day. However, in China, there is a special day dedicated to love and romance that does not fall on the 14th of February. This day, known as Chinese Valentine's Day or Qixi Festival, is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, which usually falls in August. This year, 2023, it falls on the 22nd of August. Next year, 2024, it falls on the 10th of August.

Chinese Valentine's Day has a romantic legend behind it, involving a fairy and a cowherd. According to the legend, the cowherd and the fairy fell in love and got married, but the fairy's mother was opposed to their relationship. She separated them by creating a river of stars, known as the Milky Way, between them. On the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, magpies would fly up to the Milky Way and form a bridge so that the couple could be reunited for one night.

Today, Chinese Valentine's Day is celebrated as a day of love and romance. It's a day when couples express their love for each other through gifts, romantic dinners, and other special events. The day is also known as the "Double Seventh Festival" and is a public holiday in some parts of China.

One of the most popular traditions on Chinese Valentine's Day is for couples to visit a temple and pray for happiness and good fortune. They also write their wishes on small pieces of paper and tie them to trees or bamboo branches. In some regions, couples also release paper lanterns into the sky, symbolizing their love and affection.

More recently, Chinese Valentine's Day has become an increasingly popular event for businesses to promote their products and services. Many companies offer special deals and discounts on this day, particularly in the areas of travel, dining, and gift giving. It's also a great day for hotels, as hotels can offer romantic getaways or special dinners that are fitting for this romantic occasion.
